Why Feldon Shelter & Choosing a Roof Top Tent.

Why Feldon Shelter & Choosing a Roof Top Tent.

There are many factors to consider when choosing a roof top tent for your overlanding adventures. These factors may include price, quality, ease of setting up and durability.

We started importing Feldon Shelter in Europe by having these factors in mind. Everything started when we were looking for a tent to install on our personal overland vehicle. After hours of research we decided that Feldon Shelter was the one we needed, but unfortunately, it wasn’t available in Europe; thus the idea of importing it ourselves was born.

Number 1 - Roof Top Tents built with Quality in mind!

Feldon Shelter tents are designed in New Zealand, made by some of the best locally, but also internationally sourced materials in order to ensure quality and longevity. They are designed by Adventurers; people whose passion for camping, experience and knowledge helped in making tents that are built to withstand the harsh condition of NZ.

All tents are made by Feldon's X-Canvas, a 360G Rip-Stop Canvas which is waterproof, as well as mould, mildew and UV resistant; making them perfect for most weather conditions, from heavy rain, snow, high humidity/moisture levels, even against the burning sun, during those hot summer days. Marine Grade 316 Stainless Steel is used for all components & hardware, along with an industrial grade rubber sealing method, ensuring the entire tent is weatherproof and corrosion free in salt, sun, rain and snow.

In order to back up this claim, a 2-Year warranty follows all tents.

Now, since we're talking about quality, we should definitely mention Feldon Shelter's brand new Hawks Nest V2 Range!

Built on the foundations of our extremely popular Hawk’s Nest V1 Rooftop Tent Range, which has quickly grown to become one of New Zealand’s most trusted rooftop tents.

The new range incorporates major updates that make the Hawks Nest V2 roof top tent a game changer! These include a prewired Built-in 12V LED Internal Lighting - With adjustable illumination settings, Pre-Wired 12V LED Plug & Switch Panel - Allowing you to charge your devices and control your lighting on the go, a 60mm, Triple Layer Mattress System - Featuring our famous Ergocell mattress and an anti-condensation lower layer, a New Gen Outer Shell Design - With precision CNC’d aluminium components, superior strength & aerodynamics, all coated in the industry leading Dulux® Duralloy® Coating system, Silent Zippers and last but not least, a 3-Stage Adjustable Air-Flow System, more specifically:

1. Adjustable Lower Shell Vent Panels & Anti-Condensation Mattress Layer -  to eliminate any pesky moisture buildup underneath the mattress

2. Multiple Shell Insulation Layers - to lock in heat and keep heat out the cold

3. 2-Way 12V Airflow Fan - Built into the tent body and allows you to pull air in or out of your sleeping space as required

Quality is the No.1 priority, as your Roof Top Tent is technically your travel home and you need it to withstand anything that your adventures might throw at you!

Number 2 - Setting Up Camp

The second most important factor is the ease of setting up camp. Most Roof Top Tents have this advantage over ground tents. Now, setting up and packing back down a Hard Shell tent is usually hustle free; in the case of Fledon Shelter's Hawks Nest, this only takes a few seconds, making it perfect for adventurers who like to change many different camps throughout their trip. The issues usually start with soft shell tents, more specifically, packing the tent back down and having to put on the outter cover. Feldon Shelter’s Crows Nest is not one of those tents; its cover can be refitted really quick, making it a perfect solution for adventurers who due to weight limits can’t fit a Hard Shell tent on their vehicle or are looking for a more “budget-friendly” option.

Number 4 - What about pricing?

Talking about budgets, another equally important point for most people is price. Feldon Shelter tents are priced in a way so that they offer premium-high quality to a market’s mid-range price, making them a real value for money option for a tent which will withstand the test of time and help you explore further.

Number 5 - The Community & Feldon Family

Finally, it's the Feldon Shelter’s community! The Feldon Family in NZ, is an already established and always growing community, who have even established the “Feldon wave” when two overlanders meet on the road while diving. Feldon Shelter's community is bringing people who share the love for the outdoors, camping and travel together! The same community is now making its way in Europe! The European Feldon Family is already growing, with annual Feldon Trips and meet ups being planned!

So, its your turn to join the Family and Unfold Adventure yourself!
